Just for Dogs was founded in August 1997 by a handful of like-minded people who simply wanted to rescue and re-home abandoned dogs. Founder members agreed that they would not get into any politics, rules or regulations and therefore it was decided there would be no long list of committee members drawing up endless policies.
Over the past few years, with the help of social media, we have been able to find homes for many dogs without the need for them coming into rescue, Facebook has become invaluable to us in this way as it means we can help dogs not just in the Derbyshire area but much further afield. We also strive to reunite lost dogs with their owners without the need for them to be taken to council pounds and will hold a lost dog for 24hrs whilst we endeavour to find its owner through its microchip, local dog wardens, social media or the ‘Dogs Lost’ Website.
Anyone wishing to donate money, hold or help with a fund-raising event or wishes to find out more information about becoming a volunteer can do so by calling Just for dogs on 01335 361363.

Picking images from so many beautiful pooches was impossible, these these are a completely random selection for you.

How I became Involved.
The idea first came to me while taking portraits of dogs at the “Dog Lovers Festival” run by Mad Hatters Events in Elvaston Park back in the August of 2018.
I wanted to do something to help promote a local dog charity. Having talked it over with my partner Julia. She suggested a charity her friend Shirley helped at a place near Ashbourne.
So, off I went looking for a Rescue centre in Brailsford, Ashbourne. Where I met up with the Lovely Margaret.
She very kindly let us pitch our portable studio up at the next event (2 days away). It was a great success we helped raise lots of money and where a tremendous hit with everyone. I fell in love with every dog there and made some lovely new friends too.
Asking how else I could help; we came up with the idea of giving the new arrivals their best possible chance of a new forever home by giving them their very own studio shoot.
I go up whenever needed with the full studio set up including flooring lighting and backdrop and set up in a quiet space. Then it is just a matter of coaxing the best out of the new hopefuls. With lots of help and ‘dog wrangling’ from Margaret and her daughter Gabrielle.
Then after a cuppa and a natter, it is back to the office to process and upload all the images on to my Facebook page so they can be shared and seen as quickly as possible. Then all the fun starts! With likes and shares going mad. Margret and her dedicated team prepare for the influx of phone calls and visits.
